The new vineyard purchased a few years ago by the Conterno family presents itself on the market with an exceptional Barolo, powerful and structured, with a very persistent tannic texture, and slightly more balsamic than the nearby vineyard France.

The 2018 Barolo Francia is powerful, deep and also a touch austere. It shows the edginess of all the 2018s, but also has a feeling of textural creaminess that adds tons of character. Spice, menthol, leather and a whole range of balsamic overtones build into the deep, imposing finish.

The 2018 Barolo Cerretta is a very pretty wine. Sweet, perfumed aromatics and beams of nervous tannin give the 2018 its focused personality. There is good energy and vibrancy here, if not quite the mid-palate pliancy that is typical. The 2018 is shaping up to be a decidedly understated Cerretta.

In the mouth it is velvety ample and fills up with sweet and lasting tannins. The great polyphenolic structure of Nebbiolo and the right acid tannic balance of this wine are synonyms of long lasting wine.

It opens beautifully to reveal hints of spice, licorice and blood orange woven into a core of dark cherry/plum fruit. Best of all, the 2018 will drink well with only minimal cellaring. The color is bright and intense ruby ​​red, the liveliness makes it particularly pleasant and inviting. The very fine olfactory sensations grow slowly providing first fruity nuances of blackberry and cooked plum and subsequently vinous, fermentation, typical of Barbera, with a just aromatic contribution of the wood.
