The 2017 Barolo Bricco delle Viole is classy and elegant to the core. Medium in body and wonderfully translucent, the 2017 captures all of the finesse of this site. Naturally, the 2017 also shows the ripeness of the year, but it retains its sublime sense of poise. The 2017 Bricco delle Viole is one of the clear stand outs of the year.”

    VARIETY 100% Nebbiolo

DESCRIPTION The texture of silk is the element that most characterizes Barolo Bricco Delle Viole. It comes from the homonymous vineyard, located in the highest part of the Municipality of Barolo. A unique position that allows you to see, almost caress, the chain of the Alps: a Barolo from Barolo where the characteristic notes of Nebbiolo are declined in their most delicate and elegant version.

VINEYARDS A hill that emerged about 11 million years ago, during the geological era of the Tortonian. Clay-limestone soil with high concentrations of magnesium and manganese, 400/480 meters of altitude, a microclimate that is never too hot in summer and never too cold in winter. Only the oldest vineyards are wine-made for this selection, while the younger ones are impatient, waiting to reach the age of majority.

CULTIVATION Vajra has always believed in sustainable agriculture and in the natural grassing of the vineyards. No irrigation is used and thinning is decided based on the year.

HARVEST AND VINIFICATION These vineyards are the last to be harvested. An expectation that makes our hearts palpitate because time, in autumn, can quickly change. An expectation which, however, is rewarded by a high aromatic complexity and extreme severity. In certain vintages it is necessary to make scalar collections to respect the work of these old stocks. 30, sometimes 40, are the days of fermentation necessary to make the heritage of tannins pass from the skins, from the pips and in some years, also from the stalks. And then a long period of aging (around 42-48 months) in large barrels (25-50Hl) of Slavonian oak, before bottling.

TASTING NOTES Bright ruby color. Notes of cherries, kernels of cherries in alcohol, dark berries, violets and dried roses chasing each other in citrusy, sometimes mentholated nuances. On the palate noble and silky tannins. Very balanced and with a very long finish of fresh, delicate spices.
