Le Chaumes is located below the famous La Tache vineyard but has a more clayey soil that enhances power at the expense of elegance. It produces wines with aromas of spices, liquorice, roses and toasty notes that can evolve over the years.
he Domaine Chézeaux was built from the foundations of Julien Missery's historic domaine. Bernard Chezeaux bought the property in 1971, initially giving the grapes to local negociants. With his death in 1993, the domaine passed to his son Jérome, who started bottling his own domaine wine. The estate is located in the commune of Prémeaux-Prissey, south of Nuits Saint Georges, and has been extended by an additional 12 hectares owned by Jérome's wife, Pierrette. The vineyards, impeccably tended and cultivated in reasoned agriculture, are scattered across the villages of Prémeaux, Nuits Saint Georges, Vougeot and Vosne Romenée and include some of the area's most prestigious lieu-dits. Jérome Chézeau faithfully follows tradition and a 'non-interventionist' method in the cellar.
The purity of his wines is revealing, there is a sober magnificence in all his bottles. Harvesting is manual and the grapes are cold macerated for 3-4 days and the whole cuvaison lasts about three weeks. During this period, both the technique of pumping over and pigeage are implemented, at different frequencies depending on the structure of the vintage. Fermentation takes place exclusively with indigenous yeasts and the wines undergo malolactic fermentation in barriques. Every year the domaine replaces about 1/3 of the barrels and the wine is aged for 18 to 24 months before being bottled without filtration. Among the company's most important vineyards is undoubtedly the Grand Cru Clos de Vougeot parcel, located next to the Chateau de Clos de Vougeot, facing south-east at an altitude of 254-255 metres above sea level. Among the Premier Cru is 'Les Suchots', one of the best of Vosne-Romenée located immediately below the Grand Cru of Richebourg and Romanée St-Vivant, east of Echezeaux.
