Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru "Les Suchots" 2018 - Jerome Chezeaux

Domaine Chézeaux was built from the foundations of Julien Missery's historic domaine. Bernard Chezeaux bought the property in 1971, initially giving the grapes to local negociants. With his death in 1993 the domaine passed to his son Jérome who began to bottle his own wine from the domaine. The property is located in the commune of Prémeaux-Prissey, south of Nuits Saint Georges, and has expanded by a further 12 hectares owned by Jérome's wife, Pierrette. The vineyards, impeccably cared for and cultivated in rational agriculture, are scattered in the villages of Prémeaux, Nuits Saint Georges, Vougeot and Vosne Romenée and include some of the most prestigious lieu-dits in the area. Jérome Chézeau faithfully follows tradition and a "non-interventionist" method in the cellar. The purity of his wines is revealing, there is a sober magnificence in all his bottles. The harvest is manual and the grapes are cold macerated for 3-4 days and the entire cuvaison lasts about three weeks. During this period both the pumping over and the "pigeage" techniques are implemented, at different frequencies depending on the structure of the vintage. The fermentation takes place exclusively with indigenous yeasts and the wines undergo malolactic fermentation in barriques. Every year the domaine replaces approximately 1/3 of the barrels and the wine is aged for 18 to 24 months before being bottled without filtration. Among the most important vineyards of the company there is undoubtedly the parcel of the Grand Cru Clos de Vougeot, located next to the Chateau de Clos de Vougeot, facing south-east at an altitude of 254-255 meters above sea level. Among the Premier Crus stands out "Les Suchots", one of the best in Vosne-Romenée located immediately below the Grand Crus of Richebourg and Romanée St -Vivant, east of Echezeaux.
