It was 1981 when the Swiss Brigitte and Bruno Widmer fell in love with Brancaia (Castellina in Chianti), a company in a state of neglect, and bought it. Just two years later, Brancaia was ranked first in a Chianti Classico tasting and has rapidly established itself internationally ever since. This has led to a continuous expansion of the business, first in 1989 with the purchase of the Poppi farm (Radda in Chianti) and then in 1998 with the creation of Brancaia in Maremma, just 10 km from the sea. Since 1998 Barbara Widmer, oenologist and daughter of the owners, has been responsible for the production and vineyards in all three companies, flanked by the oenologist Carlo Ferrini. Today BRANCAIA is counted among the most important companies in Tuscany and every year receives important national and international awards. Its wines are successfully distributed all over the world.
