Il Rio

Vicchio di Mugello | Tuscany

Located between the municipality of Vicchio di Mugello and the Tuscan-Romagnolo Apennines, Il Rio is a small winery owned by Paolo Cerrini who, in the early 90s, tried to plant two Nordic vines, betting on the pedoclimatic characteristics of an area considered always poorly suited to viticulture. The clayey soil and the continental climate, with a strong temperature range between day and night, have proved to be favorable to the production of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc grapes. These vines, tested in the first vineyard, were subsequently planted also on the rest of the land owned, giving rise to four wines processed and bottled in the cellar obtained in the premises of the original farmhouse Il Rio, one of the historic farms of the Fattoria di Molezzano.
