"A dark, somber wine, the 2017 Barolo Cerretta shows the more potent, brooding side of Serralunga. Black cherry, gravel, smoke, cured meats, cloves and menthol add to an impression of virile intensity and pure power. Readers will have to be patient here, but there is certainly a ton to look forward to. This is another impressive showing from Baudana and the Vajra family."  Antonio Galloni

    Size

An austere Barolo with a recognizable mineral expression. Aromas of ripe cherries and raspberries emerge elegantly from the glass. Menthol and leather aromas add depth making this wine even more intriguing. Large and refined, Cerretta is distinguished by elegant tannins, a great structure and a freshness that balances itself best with its ripe fruits.  Barolo Cerretta comes from Nebbiolo grapes harvested among the vineyards of the homonymous mention located in Serralunga. The bunches come from vineyards of the 70s made up of different Nebbiolo biotypes, and represent an incredible legacy of Luigi's work. Nebbiolo is the variety with the longest vegetative cycle among the autochthonous ones and is usually harvested around the third week of October. Fermentation occurs primarily in large barrels. A characteristic of the Cerretta grapes is a slow start in fermentation which continues for a period of about 35-40 days. A second phase called "submerged hat" follows when the best vintages allow it. Finally, Cerretta wines are aged for more than 32 months in large Slavonian oak mottos.
