Secateurs Red Wine 2019 - Badenhorst Family Wines (Sud Africa)
Vineyards between 50 and 70 years old produce compact grapes that are vinified 100% with whole bunches. Refine for 7 months on the fine lees with bâtonnage. Hints of orange blossom and dried fruit.
The winery, which is part of the Kalmoesfontein agricultural estate, is the result of an important restoration work carried out by cousins Adi and Hein Badenhorst. Grown up in the midst of nature and among the cultivated fields in the Constantia region, in 2008 they bought this property in the northernmost area of Swartland, restoring the ancient cellar used already in the 1930s. Being able to count on a park of decent age, with mostly 60-70-year-old vines of Chenin, Cinsault and Grenache, the Badenhorst have developed a natural approach to viticulture and vinification that has made them protagonists of a real territorial revolution. Their wines, mostly blends made with grapes that ferment together in the same concrete and wood tanks, are made with long macerations and a very little interventionist hand.
