G.D.Vajra

Barolo | Piedmont

The Vajra family has been cultivating and producing in the municipality of Barolo for over 40 years. Aldo and Milena, with their children Giuseppe, Francesca and Isidoro, are currently one of the most important realities in the Langa wine scene. A brand new cellar, with the most modern technology available, an aging area with large oak barrels, and an obsessive attention to the work in the vineyard, make Vajra a true point of reference for all Barolo producers and beyond. Classic wines but always precise and clean.

The red color with violet reflections, refers to the sweetness of a dark fruit of refined elegance. Intense and rich on the nose, it is at the same time concentrated and harmonious: flowers and fruit when young to leave room for hay, tobacco and spices. On the palate again fruit with grains of graphite lead to a crescendo of classical music.

Red with violet hues, a rich range of complex perfumes where red fruits, dry hay, flowers, licorice, and incense blend to a subtle mineral texture. This Barbera Superiore has a richness and an incredible depth that, starting from the nose, accompany the entire tasting.

55% Barbera and 45% Freisa. Grapes from two adjacent vineyards with a laminated fossil Sant’Agata marl soil, made looser by alluvial debris and stones. This wine combines the charisma of both varieties: the nose is sophisticated like Barbera and wild like Freisa, intricate and explicit.

It has truly classic aromas: rose petals, dog rose, cherry stone, followed by delicate tones of Nebbiolo marc, cranberry, raspberries, goudron, mint, anise, delicate musk and a hint of white pepper. On the palate it is fragrant and graceful, with a juicy and balanced mouth and velvety tannins.

A noble garnet also anticipates cherry and plum fragrances with aromas of eucalyptus, licorice and graphite spices. Warm, soft and dry, it has full-bodied tannins but balanced by a fresh and gentle acidity. The unique composition of the terroir rich in blue clay translates into a wine of powerful elegance.

Bright ruby color. Notes of cherries, kernels of cherries in alcohol, dark berries, violets and dried roses chasing each other in citrusy, sometimes mentholated nuances. On the palate noble and silky tannins. Very balanced and with a very long finish of fresh, delicate spices.

The 2017 Barolo Bricco delle Viole is classy and elegant to the core. Medium in body and wonderfully translucent, the 2017 captures all of the finesse of this site. Naturally, the 2017 also shows the ripeness of the year, but it retains its sublime sense of poise. The 2017 Bricco delle Viole is one of the clear stand outs of the year.”
